Points of interest in Cebu City

Santo Nino Basilica, Cebu City Santo Niño Basilica - the oldest church still standing from the Spanish era, this is a pilgrimage site and sees a lot of people coming in to light candles from morning until nightfall.





Magellans Cross Magellan's Cross - a few steps away from the Basilica, this shrine is a photo-op stop for tourists. This marks the place where the Portuguese explorer stepped ashore in the 1500's but is very much inland now, in the heart of the old downtown.




Fort San Pedro Cebu Fort San Pedro - contains a cultural and archaeological museum, with artefacts dating to the Pre-Spanish trading post once known as Sugbo.





Fuente Osmena Cebu Fuente Osmeña - features a fountain and a rotunda separating Cebu's upscale districts and the downtown, with a nearby casino, nightclubs, and overnight inns.





Shopping Malls Cebu Shopping Destinations - you'll find shopping destinations throughout the city. SM City Cebu is a megaplex of stores and is minutes away from the seaport. Ayala Center Cebu is located in Lahug, at the foothills of the island's mountain range.




Colon Street Cebu City Colon Street - the old main street, lined with a hodgepodge of heritage buildings, movie houses, department stores and bazaars.





Tops Mactan Island Tops - a thirty-minute uphill drive from the city centre, you can either take a taxi or hail down a motorbike for a white-knuckle ride while sitting behind the driver. The observation park at the peak gives you a panorama of Cebu's glitter at night, with views of Mactan island and the harbour.




Taoist Temple Taoist Temple - located inside an upscale subdivision, the temple is at the top of a hundred steps, with traditional Chinese motifs, resident monks and another view of the city and outlying islands below.






Outside the City

Diving in Moalboal Cebu Diving in Moalboal - Moalboal is a small town some 90 kilometres away from Cebu City, known in the diving community for its coral formations. You'll find vertical walls, tunnels, a sunken island reef and soft coral gardens. Fish of all sizes and species come in large schools, with sea turtles and occasionally, whalesharks.



Malapascua Island Cebu City Malapascua Island - The simple life goes on here, about 100 kilometres north of the metro. Getting to Malapascua is like stepping back in time; you have to wade in the surf to get down from the boat to the shore, few amenities are available, but you'll enjoy pristine white-sand shores and spectacular diving spots.
